River Rehabilitation

One of the topics that we are interested in at the moment is rehabilitation of rivers.

We are looking at different case studies around the world with a special focus: the state of the river before and after the intervention. We have placed the case studies on a scale of worst case-to natural. The diagram is divided as such

  • Worst case: covered, channelized, and polluted
  • Artificial: channelized and polluted
  • Semi-Artificial: channelized and clean
  • In-between: public areas integration, storm water management
  • Urbanized natural: attempt to return to natural state
  • Natural: natural ecosystem, phytoremediation, biodiversity, and natural habitat

About tOD

Active since 2010, the architecture lab theOtherDada defends an alternative position towards the current practice of sustainability through exploration of the context and medium, invoking new relationships between climate, landscape, and inhabitants. Informed by our research into biomimicry, we aim to connect to the natural ecosystems of sites to understand and consequently devise new potential living habitats. theOtherDada works within a collaborative process between architects, scientists, botanists, artists, economists and craftsmen.
