Sustainability in Interior Design Training

A training session is organized by theOtherDada [tOD] presented by Adib Dada, Founder and Lead Architect of tOD for the department of Interior Design at Dar Al Uloom University Riyadh, KSA.

It addresses the role of interior designers in promoting environmentally friendly projects.

The presentation starts with global challenges such as climate change, pollution and emissions, water scarcity, waste and diminishing of resources.

It takes the students through the steps of how to improve indoor spaces by optimizing energy and water systems by reducing energy and water use, recycling and reusing energy and water, using renewable energy sources, recycling and reusing ; and how to select adequate material that are non-toxic and low emitting that can be recycled and reused.

The presentation also includes a section on history highlighting works of previous architects and designers known for the integration of nature and the environment in their work.

It shows the different environmental certifications around the world and in the MENA region.

Finally it shows concepts that are beyond the basic ideas of sustainability by discussing terms such as Biophilia and Biomimicry.
